Greens Select General Election Candidate for Milton Keynes South West

Alan Francis has been selected by Milton Keynes Green Party to contest the Milton Keynes South West constituency in the forthcoming general election.

This will be the 6th general election that Mr Francis has contested in Milton Keynes.

Mr Francis said, “I am delighted once again to have been selected to try to represent the people of Milton Keynes in Parliament. The fact that this will be my sixth general election shows my long term commitment to Milton Keynes and the people who live here.”

“The Labour government was elected with such high hopes in 1997 but it has failed us on so many issues. It has taken us into an illegal war in Iraq, wants to double the size of Milton Keynes by building on the green fields around the city and is privatising hospitals and schools. Pollution continues to increase with global warming causing more gales and floods, yet the government's solution is to build more roads and airports leading to even more global warming. The Labour government is unpopular because of it's policies now and the Conservative opposition is unpopular because of the mistakes it made in the 1990's. That creates an excellent opportunity for parties such as the Greens to gain support.”

Alan Francis, 56, is single and has lived and worked in Milton Keynes for 27 years. He was a researcher at the Open University for many years and has run his own computer graphics and electronic publishing consultancy, Page Description. Mr Francis is now a transport consultant.

Mr Francis is Chair of the New Bradwell Parish Council. He has been involved in many environment and community groups including, MK Forum, Wolverton Rail Users Group, MK Friends of the Earth. He is a member of the Milton Keynes Transport Partnership and the Milton Keynes Environment Partnership. He has been chair of the Green Party’s National Executive Committee (and registered as the leader of the party) and is the Green Party National Speaker on Transport and a member of the party's Policy Committee. He has been a candidate for Milton Keynes in 5 general elections, 3 European Parliament elections and more than 20 council elections.
