Fairtrade

See the MK Fairtrade Forum for more information about local Fairtrade outlets, and campaigning for more Fairtrade in Milton Keynes,

There is a kiosk selling Fairtrade goods open every day at the City Church, Christ the Cornerstone, CMK (opposite Marks and Spencers). Many local churches also have fairtrade stalls supplied by local fairtrade / Traidcraft supplier Just Trading, 01908 567436, which is based at the City Church.


Food

Farmers Markets Olney (1st Sunday of month, 10am - 2pm), Woburn (3rd Sunday of month, 11am - 3pm), Stony Stratford (4th Friday of month, 8.30 - 2pm), Wolverton (1st and 3rd Saturday of month, 9am - 1pm, Beside Library/Madcap theatre theatre). Buckingham (first Tuesday of month).

Camphill Cafe (opposite the peace pagoda, off V10) serves home made food made mainly from ingredients grown in their own gardens using organic methods. Open Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm.

Daily Bread Wholefood Warehouse in Northampton is one of the best wholefood shops in Britain. This long estatblished workers' coop has a huge range of wholefoods, lots of organic options, plus household goods, some clothes/bags, and more. If you can't or don't wish to travel to Northampton, you can order by phone and collect your Daily Bread shopping from the Cornerstone Kiosk in Milton Keynes and some other collection points (e.g. OU).

Cornerstone Kiosk at the City Church CMK (opposite Marks and Spencer) stocks some fairtrade foods and beverages. Open daily.


Clothes

Daily Bread in Northampton stocks fairtrade and organic clothes and bags. See main entries in Fairtrade and Food sections.


Gardening

Peace and Justice

The Milton Keynes Peace and Justice Network organizes regular Just Suppers with food and interesting speakers.

There is a Milton Keynes Stop The War group which runs regular street stalls in CMK (near MacDonalds / Easy Cinema) on Saturdays 12 - 2pm.


Recycling

Tools for Self Reliance (Milton Keynes) will collect old tools and sewing machines from you. They are refurbished and sent via the national Tools for Self Reliance charity to craftspeople in developing countries. Volunteer helpers also needed. 01908 670825.

local FreeCycle group a local email-based group for exchanging unwanted items free of charge. If you have a sofa, fridge, computer, bike, or whatever that you don't want... tell freecycyle, and the chances are another member will want it: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycleMilton-Keynes/

send off your old inkjet and toner cartridges, and old mobile phones, to action aid to be recycled in aid of a good cause.


Training and Education

The Low Impact Living Inititiative at the Redfield Community near Winslow runs weekend courses in environmental topics such as solar energy, straw bale building, environmentally friendly paints, composting toilets etc. 01296 714184.
